The Lake District and great food do not always go hand in hand like some other parts of the world, depending on, of course, your take on fine food. But as the local fine dining scene evolves from traditional hotel dining rooms to more subtle offerings the Lake District now has more than its fair share of the highly coveted Michelin Stars.
L`Enclume is Cartmel is now well established having been awarded 2 Michelin Stars for many years. Restaurateur Simon Rogan has developed a reputation as one of the finest and most innovative chefs in the UK. His second outlet in the pretty Cumbria village has just been awarded a Michelin Star too.
An established recipient back on the list of the highly sought after star is HRi SHi restaurant at Gilpin Hotel. the award was recently won back by Hrishikesh Desai where like every other good restaurant in the Lakes the wonderful local produce is used in innovative style. Gilpin Spice is also receiving rave reviews from locals and visitors.
One of the newer kids on the block is Forest Side is local through and through with much of its produce grown on site in Grasmere. With a Cumbrian head chef who has worked at all the best restaurants in the Lakes Forrest Side really do offer the landscape on a plate.
The best restaurant you may not have heard of is undoubtedly Lake Road Kitchen. Just like the others mentioned here local produce and culinary skills go hand in hand.
