Grasmere Village in the Lake District
Right in the center of the Lake District National Park is Grasmere, famed for its connections to William Wordsworth and Gingerbread. But there is so much more to the town than dead poets and crumbly snacks. Set on the river Rothay and just north of Grasmere Water where rowing boats can be rented, there is plenty to do and see in the town including shopping, hiking, art, food and drink.
World famous Grasmere Sports has been taking place regularly since 1868 and is a celebration of many sports including many Lakeland specialties including fell running and hound trailing not to mention the Cumberland and Westmorland wrestling which is a must see local tradition.
Grasmere is probably best known for its lierary and artistic connections with the best known being William Wordsworth and William Heaton Cooper.
