We have all gone bike mad in the Lake District this week as two stages of the Evo Energy Tour of Britain took place here yesterday and today. The Lake District and Cumbria is already well known as the best destination for all types of biking and hosting Tour de France winners and world champions is a wonderful opportunity.
On Thursday a short but fairly steep team time trial from Cockermouth to Whinlatter took less than 20 minutes for the fastest teams and Friday saw a much longer stage of over 100 kilometers from Barrow in Furness to Whinlatter via Ulverston, Coniston, Ambleside and Grasmere.
The coverage on ITV4 was wonderful for the area and the highlights program will be great to watch for anyone with an interest in the sport or this wonderful part of the country. The sunshine enjoyed by the riders for much of the race gave way to some light drizzle towards the end which sums up the ever changing and never boring conditions in the Lake District.
